Seeking God

You may ask yourself these questions: “Am I backsliding?  Have my heart grown cold? Cold to the Lord!  Drifted from God!  Some have drifted without realising it!  It is time to seek the Lord!  It is time to come back to the Lord!  Do Christians still seek God?  I believe that they still do.  Are you a seeker?  Once upon a time, I was.  I started questioning about the meaning of life when I was in Primary 5, that is, at the age of 11.  At that time, I already asked myself this question, “Is there life after death?”  I was searching for an answer to that question.  I started seeking God at a young age. I asked my classmates about God but none can provide a satisfactory answer to me.  I found God at the age of 12.  I found out the real meaning of life and encountered God personally.  There is a reward in seeking God.  The reward of seeking God is finding God.  In Jeremiah 29: 13 ESV, it says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”

Have you found God?  If you have not been seeking God, how would you find Him?  In Psalm 63: 1 ESV, it says, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”  When you are hindered from coming to the house of the Lord, you will feel how the psalmist has felt.  There are many hindrances and distractions which we face in this world.  It might be your work commitments or your family commitments or your disappointments with people and the lists go on.  Take for example those who live in a country where there is no religious freedom like ours.  They find it even more difficult to go to the house of the Lord to worship God and to have fellowship with His people.  We are very privilege here in Singapore where we can freely worship the Lord.  Thank God for giving us such freedom!  Seeking God!  This has to start from where you are, in your own home individually.  Seeking God is a regular affair.  It has to be cultivated in our hearts.  It involves the element of faith.  In Hebrews 11:6 ESV, it says, “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”  It is coming to God and drawing close to God and believing that He will never turn you away when you wholeheartedly seek Him and desiring to know Him and please Him.

Having found God, it does not stop there!  It must be maintained and sustained.  If not, you would soon be drifted from the Lord again.  When you did not stay close to the Lord or continue to walk with Him, you will soon move away from Him.  That was what happened to me in the past.  Perhaps, I have not been continually seeking after Him and His ways.  “A drastic change needs a drastic action.”  This was what I had learnt in the past.  I have drifted from the Lord before, that is, have backslided.  My heart has grown cold before.  I knew what it was like living a life on my own apart from God.  It was miserable and meaningless.  There was no fulfillment in life without God.  If you have drifted from the Lord too, you need to do something.  You cannot remain status quo.  Something needs to be done.  You cannot let it go undone!  If you feel that you have drifted far away from God, then I would urge you to start seeking God now.  Don’t procrastinate!  Don’t delay seeking God.  Don’t wait until it is too late! Now is the time to seek the Lord.  Now is the time to seek His face.  You may have been serving the Lord all these years but your heart may have been drifted from God. You need to start seeking the Lord again!  Let the Lord do His transforming work in your life!  God is waiting for His erring ones to come back to Him.  Seek God now and you will surely find Him.  In Psalm 105: 4 ESV, it says, “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.”  Let us all desire to seek God always and find in God the refuge and strength for our souls.

My friends, I hope that this article will spur you on to take the drastic action which you have to take, that is, to start seeking God now without any delay or any hesitation.  If you need help in this area of seeking God, you may approach me or any of the pastors or the leaders of the church.
