Pray for TWPC-EC: “To love one another”

Read and Ponder:

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. (John 13:34-35 ESV)

Food for Thought:

What did Jesus mean when He gave the disciples this new commandment – “love one another”? He further explained in the next line: “Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” When we see how Jesus relate with His disciples, we see His patience with them and His kindness towards them. Love is patient and kind. (1 Corinthians 13:4a). He treated them with gentleness and spoke nicely to them. He served them with love. We could see Jesus’ love for His disciples as mentioned in verse 1 of John 13: “Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” He washed His disciples’ feet which was very unusual for a leader in Jesus’ days to do that.

When we slowly read the Gospels, we can learn a lot from the love Jesus had for His disciples. When we serve one another, we show that we love one another. When we treat one another well, we are demonstrating love to one another. Several questions we can ask: “How do we relate with each other? How do we speak to each other? How do we treat each other? Do we have love for one another? Are we patient and kind? Do we initiate to serve others?”

Prayers:

  1. Pray that we will take time to reflect deeply and truly “digest” the truths these Bible verses are teaching us.
  2. Pray that we will allow God to soften our hearts in the way we relate with each other.
  3. Pray that we may have humble, obedient, and teachable hearts, learning from our Lord Jesus how to truly love one another.
  4. Pray that we will give each other the opportunity to demonstrate love to one another,
  5. Pray that we may serve others rather than seek to be served.
  6. Pray that we will be patient and kind towards each other.
  7. Pray that we will be gracious in our speech.
  8. Pray that we will treat each other well.
